Unlock The Secrets Of Colour And Painting In The Landscape

A Three-Day Painting Workshop in the English Countryside

Discover a clearer, more enjoyable way to work from the landscape and enhance your control of colour — while painting in one of England’s most beautiful rural landscapes.

This three-day workshop offers the rare combination of focused learningtime to practise, and a deeply inspiring setting. Whether you’re travelling from elsewhere in the UK or visiting from overseas, it’s designed as both a creative retreat and a confidence-building painting experience.

A Painting Experience, Not a Rushed Course

Over three relaxed, well-structured days, you’ll be guided through the essentials of colour in a way that feels practical, intuitive, and genuinely useful — not overwhelming.

Each day balances:

  • Outdoor sketching in the surrounding countryside (weather permitting)
  • Studio time developing ideas in colour
  • Clear demonstrations and guidance you can apply immediately
  • Space to slow down, reflect, and enjoy the process

This is not about ticking boxes or racing through exercises.
It’s about understanding colour well enough to trust your instincts — and enjoying painting again.

The Setting

The workshop takes place in a quiet, rural part of northern England — an area known for rolling green hills, stone walls, waterfalls, and open skies.

For UK participants, it’s a chance to step away from everyday routines and immerse yourself fully in painting.
For international visitors, it offers a distinctly English landscape — calm, timeless, and wonderfully suited to sketching and colour study.

You don’t need to know the area in advance.
You just need a love of landscape, light, and time to create.

What You’ll Learn

This workshop focuses on everything you need to paint effectively with colour, including:

  • How and what to look for when sketching in the landscape (or elsewhere!)
  • Translating sketches into finished colour work in the beautiful studios
  • How to simplify colour decisions
  • Understanding relationships between colours, including key colour wheels
  • Creating harmony without overthinking, including colour saturation, toning, greys and more
  • Developing confidence in your palette
  • A practical approach you can continue using long after the workshop

The teaching builds gradually, session by session, allowing ideas to settle and connect naturally.

Who This Workshop Is For

This workshop is ideal if you:

  • Enjoy painting or drawing and want to deepen your skills
  • Feel unsure or inconsistent when working with colour
  • Appreciate thoughtful teaching rather than rigid rules
  • Value small groups and personal guidance
  • Love landscape, travel, and time spent creatively
  • Want space to focus — without pressure or performance

All levels are welcome.
You don’t need to be “good enough” — just open and curious.

Why This Workshop Is Different

  • Three full days — enough time to absorb, practise, and genuinely progress
  • A proven, simplified approach — refined through years of professional practice and teaching
  • An inspiring location — both studio-based and outdoors
  • Small group size — ensuring personal attention and a calm pace
